There was a time when you were advised to use between 1% and 3% keyword density (KD), which means that the keyword your web page is designed around should appear between one and three times in every hundred words. It doesn’t sound a lot, but if you have a page with a thousand words on it (not unusual) you would have up to 30 incidences of your keyword. That is not only unnatural and would look silly but Google would penalize you for it by giving you a very poor listing.
Now, through the use of statistical analysis of the text on your web page, you can replace keywords with words that make the subject of the page clear. There are many examples cited on the web, but I like the one that I invented: that of the locks. ‘Lock design through the ages’: what does that mean? The history of canal locks? Perhaps. The design of security locks? Just as likely. Hair style designs? Unlikely, but who knows? The keyword gives no indication, so you would be trusting to the text to inform you of the subject of the web page. That is what Google calls LSI at work (correctly LSA: latent semantic analysis).
However, there is a lot more to SEO than just the text on the page, although that is a very large part of it. And where does the ‘affordable’ come into it? Check out the internet! You will find that SEO services can be very expensive, and people are paying hundreds and even thousands of dollars to get their websites optimized for search engines.
There are lots of ways in which you can optimize your site very cheaply: in fact without paying anything. I am not criticizing the SEO companies charging these high prices, since they are more relevant to large companies with large websites whereby the SEO experts earn their money. Traffic generation is just as important to them, though the affordable SEO services are not so, with their large budgets.
However, you likely do not need them with your website of less than a hundred or so pages. In fact the size of your site matters little: it is the diversity that can make SEO not more difficult, but more time consuming. The most important aspects of each of your web pages are the content of the page and how many other web pages are linked to it. If you have lots of good content on your website that is relevant to the search term being used by the search engine user, and if you have other websites with some authority on the subject linking to your page, then that page will have a very good chance of appearing on the first page of the search engine for the search term, or keyword, for which it has been optimized.
So, content and linking strategy. What else? EWhat about the way you link your pages within your website? That also is of extreme importance, and you can use your internal links to lead the search engine algorithms (or crawler or spiders, whetever you call them) to each of your web pages in the order that you want them visited. This can make a big difference to your listing position, which in turn affects the way that they can generate traffic.
There is an awful lot more, though, that you will have to learn before you can confidently expect a good listing every time you generate a new web page, or even a complete website.
